How to Obtain Elytra
Elytra are wings that allow players to glide through the air, providing the closest thing to flight in survival Minecraft.
How to obtain:
- Found in end ships in the outer End islands
- Each end ship contains exactly one elytra
- Cannot be crafted or obtained from villagers
- Can be repaired with phantom membranes
Tip: Combine multiple methods—looting structures, trading with villagers, or farming mobs—to gather elytra more reliably.
Uses for Elytra
- Gliding through the air
- Fast transportation over long distances
- Exploring difficult terrain
- Performing aerial stunts
Fun Fact
Elytra were added in the 1.9 Combat Update and were the first item to give players the ability to fly in survival mode without commands or mods.
