How to Obtain Name Tag
Name Tags are used to name mobs, preventing them from despawning and giving them custom names.
How to obtain:
- Found in dungeon, mineshaft, and woodland mansion chests
- Fishing (rare treasure)
- Trading with librarian villagers
- Cannot be crafted
Tip: Combine multiple methods—looting structures, trading with villagers, or farming mobs—to gather name tag more reliably.
Uses for Name Tag
- Naming pets and other mobs

Fun Fact
If you name a mob 'Dinnerbone' or 'Grumm' using a name tag, the mob will flip upside down - a fun easter egg named after Minecraft developers.
