The real payoff is north of spawn: sail straight north in a boat and you'll reach a Mushroom Fields (Mushroom Island) biome, one of the safest places in Minecraft thanks to no hostile mob spawns on the surface. Use the starter island for early-game challenge, then relocate farms and storage to the mushroom island for a permanent safe base.
