How to Install Addons on Minecraft Bedrock
Import a .mcpack or .mcaddon, then activate it on the world. Realms needs an extra Replace World step afterward.
Windows Bedrock
- Download the .mcaddon / .mcpack to Downloads.
- Double-click the file. Minecraft Store edition should launch and import.
- Watch for a success toast. Then activate packs on a world (below).
Android (PE)
- Download to local storage (not SD-only if Minecraft can’t see it).
- Use Files → Open with → Minecraft.
- If nothing happens, update Minecraft and retry from an internal Downloads folder.
iOS / iPadOS
- Download in Safari / Files.
- Open the file → Share → Minecraft (or “Copy to Minecraft”).
- Confirm the import, then activate on a world.
Activate on a world
- Worlds → pencil on your world.
- Turn on required experiments if the pack page lists any.
- Resource Packs → activate the look/sounds pack.
- Behavior Packs → activate the gameplay pack (order matters for multi-pack addons).
- Play and verify custom content.
Making your own textures? Use the Bedrock resource pack maker.

FAQ
What’s the difference between .mcpack and .mcaddon?
.mcpack is usually one pack (resource or behavior). .mcaddon is a bundle that can contain both. Opening either should import into Minecraft’s storage if the file association works.
Can I install addons on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch?
Consoles are the hardest. Marketplace purchases work. Sideloading random .mcaddon files is limited or blocked depending on platform rules — Windows, Android, and iOS (Files) are the usual sideload paths.
My .mcaddon won’t open Minecraft
Move the file to local storage (not cloud-only), ensure Minecraft is updated, and open with Minecraft. On Android try a file manager “Open with”. On Windows, double-click usually works for Store Minecraft.
Do I need both behavior and resource packs?
If the addon adds new items/mobs you almost always need both. Activate matching pairs together and keep dependency order correct.
Where do free addons come from?
Official free Marketplace listings (in-game Price → Free), Realms Plus catalog (subscription), and trusted community .mcaddon sites. Avoid shady APK “mod menus.”
